MAPPING MEMORIES: STORIES OF REFUGEE YOUTH LIVING IN MONTRÉAL

Position Title: Media Intern
Group: Refugee Youth Working Group
Hours/Week: 10-15 hours/week
Reporting To: Liz Miller, Working Group Coordinator

Project Description:

Working through, and in collaboration with, the Montréal Life Stories CURA Project, Mapping Memories: Stories of Refugee Youth in Montreal is a collaborative multi-media project which aims to integrate video, new media and personal stories to raise awareness around the situation of refugee youth in Montréal. Our work will be broadcast online, on television, via radio podcasts, and will be integrated into school curriculums and community projects.

This project is the initiative of artists, educators, filmmakers, students and youth from Concordia University and the Montréal community. The project is a collaboration with individuals and groups working with the Canadian Council for Refugees to support refugee youth. Our objective is to produce creative work that will have an impact on policy, art, education and the lives of the youth involved. Using participatory methodologies we train and involve youth participants.

Key Responsibilities: Digital Designer

· Assist in producing & editing video interviews with refugee artists
· Compress videos for on-line video website blip.tv
· Manage videos on our website
· Transcribe video interviews
· Translate materials from English to French, and possibly other languages
· Assist in media workshops with refugee youth

Education and Experience:

Undergraduate degree in a media related field
Film and journalism students encouraged to apply
3 years of media experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:

· Bilingual fluency: English and French, spoken and written.
· Knowledge of Photoshop and Final Cut Pro
· Familiarity with Drupal, Delicious, Google Earth and Blip.tv
· We are looking for an intern who can work independently with the ability to shoot and edit video footage that is produced for the project. Video editing experience with Final Cut Pro is required. The
candidate must be tech savvy with an interest in online video.
