Announcing the Launch of the Stories Matter (On/Online) Database Tool

A message from Steven High

Michael Frisch has recently written that the "deep dark secret" of oral history is that we don't really know what to do with the orality of the source. In transcribing our interviews, we lose the orality almost immediately thus shoring the narratives of much of their meaning. A new media application now offers oral historians an alternative to transcription (available at http://storytelling.concordia.ca/storiesmatter/).

A new life for unique stories

Life Stories Montreal and the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre (MHMC) are pleased to announce that close to 500 Holocaust survivor interviews have recently been digitized.

Since the 1990s, the MHMC has recorded, mostly via VHS support, the life stories of hundreds of Holocaust survivors, as many in English as in French, as in Hebrew and Yiddish. Thanks to collaboration with the Life Stories Montreal project, these interviews have been transferred to a digital format, ensuring their long term conservation as well as a greater accessibility and new possibilities for dissemination.
